Situated at 1,300m above sea level on the northern slopes of the Rila mountains, Borovets is Bulgaria's most modern mountain resort. Easily accessible from across the country — just 73 km from Sofia and 126 km from Plovdiv — Borovets offers excellent conditions for rest throughout the year.

During the warmer months, Borovets offers wonderful conditions for relaxation amid the coolness and tranquillity of ancient conifer forests, meadows scattered with flowers and herbs, numerous lakes and snow-capped peaks. For nature lovers, the resort is a preferred destination and a starting point for many hiking routes and excursions into the Rila mountains. In the evenings, the resort pulsates with the countless lights of its nightlife.

Borovets is Bulgaria's oldest winter resort, with a history dating back to 1896. Today it is Bulgaria's most prestigious ski centre, located on the northern slopes of the Musalen ridge in the eastern part of the Rila mountains. Nestled in ancient pine forests at over 1,300m above sea level, Borovets is the ideal destination for winter sports and holidays.

The resort has a moderate climate with mild winters and heavy snowfall. The average temperature in January — the coldest month — is approximately 4.8°C. The ski season typically runs from mid-December to April.

The resort offers excellent conditions for winter sports: alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing and snowboarding. The marked alpine ski runs have a total length of 58 km. The cross-country skiing trails span up to 35 km in length, designed to International Ski Federation standards with a minimum width of 6 metres.

Biathlon — in 1993, Borovets hosted the Biathlon World Championship. Ski jumping — in the Central Borovets ski centre there is a 70-metre ski jump.

Cross-country skiing trails

The absolute silence of the mountain expanse, the blinding whiteness of untrodden snow, a cloudless sky, the scent of pine — all of this will give you a magical day of skiing in Borovets. The resort offers cross-country skiers long-distance trails in the areas of "Shiroka Polyana" and "Varnika", with trail lengths of 3.5 km and 10 km respectively.
